April News

April already - where is the year going - almost Flu Season and then it is Christmas!

We are starting to get deliveries of on seasonal Flu Vaccine however the Department of Health are reccommending that patients should not have the vaccination until late April or early May.  They advise that the best protection is 3-4 months after being vaccinated and the flu peak is usually July- August so this timing should give the best protection.

Other things happening this month:

Parkinsons Awareness Month

This site has some excellent information

Advance Care Planning Month

Advance care planning does not take the place of having a Medical Power of Attorney appointed.
Advance care planning should be a routine part of a persons health care and the contents reviewed at regular intervals.
This plan enables a persons values and wishes to be discussed openly, their health care preferences can be documented while they are able to voice their decisions.  It is an ongoing process that needs cooperation between individuals , their families, health care workers and health professions as well as community organisations and healthcare organisations for a smooth transition to your care as you age.

Heart Week

Healthy Heart Checks have been in the news lately with the Department of Human Services introducing a program to encourage people to have regular Heart Health Checks.
Heart Health week at the end of April will focus on how to maintain your heart in the healthiest condition
